Data Scientist

Your tasks and responsibilities

As part of the digital transformation of our organization, we envision the optimization of existing operations and the creation of new business/scientific opportunities across the pharmaceutical value chain. Data-driven decision-making is central to the above and to achieve this, we are looking to add a Data Scientist to our team. The ideal candidate will have a track record of engaging with stakeholders and delivering well-accepted impactful solutions, through the use of machine learning and statistical techniques. ■Be at the forefront of digital transformation in Bayer Japan, introducing and implementing advanced solutions potentially including, but not limited to, predictive modelling, recommendation engines, optimization techniques, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) ■Work closely with stakeholders across the value chain to identify areas for improvement or innovation using advanced data mining or statistical methods ■Engage in agile internal development (hands-on, fast prototyping), and if necessity calls for it, manage and work with external partners ■Work closely with data engineers and operations team to build sustainable and scalable solutions in the production environment

■You are a self-driven professional with self-initiative and out-of-the-box thinking ■You are not afraid share your ideas with others and to engage in discussions with leadership ■You have the ability to not only solve technical problems but also connect technical solutions with business outcomes, and appreciate the larger tactical or strategic picture ■You have a firm understanding of what data-driven means and the ability to get others around you excited about digital transformation ■You are comfortable with dealing with a variety of large or complex datasets and have a strong desire to keep up with latest advancements in applied data science / machine learning ■You are highly objective and possess the knowledge of methods and metrics to evaluate performance of models that you or others have created ■You find importance in observing business processes, environment, and users to design solutions which are truly needed - Bachelor’s Degree or above ■At least 5 Years Working knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages: C++, Java, Python, Scala, or R ■Strong background/understanding in data science, statistics, data models/structures, feature engineering, and machine learning techniques (e.g. CNN, RNN, gradient-boosted models, NER, etc.…) ■Business level English (TOEIC 730+ or equivalent) ■Business level Japanese (N1/N2 or equivalent) ■Strong logical thinking ability and quick at learning new concepts or techniques ■Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in simple terms Nice to have skills: ■Familiarity with enterprise and/or public cloud data architecture ■Experience in fast prototyping and/or agile development ■Knowledge of design thinking methodology ■Experience in business process optimization ■Familiarity with interactive environments such as Jupyter, Datalab, or RStudio ■Familiarity with data visualization solutions (Tableau, d3.js, etc.…) ■Knowledge of the biomedical or pharmaceutical industry ・Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer - centric solutions. ・Ensuring accountability and consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances. ・Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. ・Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems. ・Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
